Librarian
Elizabeth City State University
I am the Music Librarian and liaison to Visual Arts and Digital Media at Elizabeth City State University, where I also coordinate the Digital Repository. In my academic journey, I'm advancing towards leadership by pursuing a Doctorate in Education, focusing on Leadership and Management in Information Technology. This equips me to champion progressive changes in academic librarianship.
Originating from Izmir (ancient Smyrna), I am a proud first-generation immigrant woman and an American citizen, bringing a rich tapestry of experiences to my role. My immigrant background fuels my dedication to shaping inclusive libraries that support and empower newcomers, particularly in scholarly content creation. I believe in libraries as dynamic spaces reflecting and respecting community diversity, actively breaking down systemic barriers.
My advocacy extends to marginalized voices and local and self-published authors, promoting open access, digital equity, and sustainable libraries and education. I am firmly opposed to censorship and am committed to ensuring equal and equitable information access, recognizing its crucial role in enriching the educational experience.
