Employees are a company's greatest asset. Supporting their professional growth and well-being leads to a more engaged, productive workforce. This 60-minute workshop will provide library leaders and employees with an innovative overview for implementing personal development plans that support diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI) to improve their overall wellness. With a focus on the mental health of BIPOC individuals, this workshop will share leading practices for communicating about diversity, equity, and inclusion in ways that enhance psychological safety. Research shows that when employees feel included and able to bring their authentic selves to work, they experience less stress, improved concentration, and higher job satisfaction. Participants will gain insights into how to empower employees or themselves to set meaningful development goals aligned with DEI objectives. For example, library managers will learn inclusive goal-setting techniques that mitigate bias and foster belonging. Employees will discover how to identify plans tailored to their diverse backgrounds and intersectional identities. With racial justice and mental health becoming increasingly urgent, this workshop allows participants to learn the importance of the personal development plan and review the tools and resources to thrive personally and professionally.
